Triggered Health Assessments
Triggered health assessments are initiated when an incident, concern, or observable change suggests that a worker’s ability to perform their rail safety duties may be affected. These assessments facilitate early identification, intervention, and management of health conditions that could compromise safety. They complement routine periodic assessments and are particularly important for detecting health issues that may arise suddenly or progress rapidly.
Rail transport operators are encouraged to remain vigilant for indicators of potential ill health and to address any concerns directly with the rail safety worker.
Common triggers for assessment include:
- Review assessments recommended by an Authorised Health Professional
- Patterns of sick leave or repeated absenteeism
- Involvement in accidents or recurring incident trends
- Requests initiated by the worker
